Clea stars in a the circa 1850 Victorian romance Summer in Kent. Debuting in London, Clea plays Meg, a charismatic young woman who dreams of poetry and romance. Longing for that one true love, Meg turns down all of her father’s pick of suitors. He has given her an ultimatum: choose a suitor of her own by next Christmas Eve, or he will pick one for her.

History Tidbit:
In the early Victorian period women in both Europe and the Americas wore a tightly fitted corset over a short sleeve chemise and long drawers called pantalettes. Because the ideal woman was expected to be soft spoken and exude an air of delicate beauty, the early Victorian corset was designed to squeeze the waist into the smallest, "most delicate" diameter possible. This made it very difficult for a young woman to breath under excitable circumstances. Fainting became a common side effect, further establishing the Victorian woman as a "frail creature".

History Tidbit:
The Industrial Revolution of the 1800's made England and France wealthy nations with expanding trade connections and growing empires. By 1850 American cities were growing and this young country became on of the major suppliers of raw materials such as cotton. But Europe also looked to the east for cashmeres, silks and fine woven cottons.

The typical style of the early to mid 1850's was a wide dome shape skirt over a caged crinoline with a separate well fitted bodice. Printed and plaid cotton from the Americas was the most popular fabric choice for day wear. The bodice modestly covered a women's entire chest and either gathered in ruffles or a tailored collar around the neck.

This costume was based on a compilation of historical costumes from England circa 1855. The big dome skirt was very popular in Europe and America during the beginning reign of Queen Victoria.

GOING INTO PRODUCTION THIS SUMMER!

Fully articulated, wigged Vinyl Dressed doll.

xxxClea returns home to a wonderful surprise. Her good friend Dee Dee is flying in for the weekend. Clea meets her at the L.A.X. airport baggage claim. It’s instant giggles and hugs. As the two swap details of their latest adventures Clea can tell that Dee Dee is keeping a secret. Dee Dee grins, enjoying the game, when she suddenly realizes that an hour has past and her luggage hasn’t arrived yet.
xxx“Oh my God, they lost it!“ Dee Dee exclaims.
xxx“Lost what?” Clea asks, but Dee Dee won’t tell.
xxxAfter being transferred from one manager to the next, Dee Dee gets the bad news: her luggage never left Seattle. Clea grabs her arm and exclaims “Road Trip!”
xxxThey take three lazy days driving up the coast, shopping for what they need as they go. At last, the girls make it to Seattle and Clea opens Dee Dee’s big lavender box right there at the airport. It’s Dee Dee’s latest costume design: an early Victorian hoop dress and a script titled Summer in Kent.
xxxClea screams. “You got your play produced!”
xxxDee Dee casually nods her head then tells Clea the best part of the news: “It’s debuting in London!”

Photo shows original prototype using Daisy Kindom® fabric for outer skirt. Final production fabric will be designed by Christina "Bogie" Bougas. It will be similiar in color and style. Flower and border design will differ.
