The Legend of Windslow Valley

1,000 years ago the wind in this valley blew so fierce that not even a storm cloud could linger long enough to drop rain on the villager's barren land. One day a beautiful witch used her powerful magic to slow the winds. The valley quickly flourished with dense woods and lush green pastures. The villagers vowed to love the witch forever.

But as the years passed the villagers grew over protective of their land and began to treat outsiders very poorly. On a day in early Spring, they tried to chase a wizard out of town by cruelly teasing him about his large nose. The Wizard returned their "hospitality" by cursing their beautiful witch with ugliness.

Try as they may, the villagers could no longer look upon their beloved witch. With each year of rejection the witch grew bitter and lonely. The more anger she felt the more the winds blew until all the trees and grasses were swept away.

James the White Knight, proudly swore he alone had the will power to look upon the witch and bring peace back to the valley. Although he could look at her, he could not control her windy temper. In fact, the more he tried the worse the winds blew. As comes with time, his pride faded with defeat. His heart filled with humility and he came to look at the world, and the witch, with more gentle eyes. Without thinking, he began singing with her wind. His music calmed her sorrow. Her ugliness faded away and, once again, the winds slowed. On his death bed the knight declared his love for the witch and swore he would never leave her.

Through the decades, the knights song can be heard in even a gentle breeze. And, if you are lucky, you will see the ghostly couple kissing in the tall green grasses of Windslow Valley just before it rains.
